The bright light coming through the window was downright obnoxious. It pierced Jay's eyelids like little laughing daggers.
He opened his eyes and sneezed in to his hands. There must be something in the air, there were colors in his snot that weren't right; blue and purple don't belong in snot.
He wished he had a tissue and noticed that there was a box right on the dashboard. He grabbed a handful as he stood up, preoccupied with the color and what the hell could cause it.
You're probably noticing that Jay is pretty oblivious to whats going on. There weren't any tissue boxes around last night and even if there were, Jay hadn't opened any. The box sort of popped in to place when Jay needed them and faded away.
If Jay had internet service right now, he'd be able to look up what the colors might mean and he'd find that the purple snot color would bring him to articles about Tyrian purple, a dye made from sea snail mucus, and that the blue snot might be a medication side effect or inhaling industrial chemicals. What he wouldn't find is that he was about to have a moment in his life that would cause his already infinite love and hate to new bounds... that's right, he was about to go beyond being to crush 3 universes to 5... wait, no 6... uhhh hold on, the dials spinning ... let's just go with a *lot*.... he was having himself a rather Goku like moment and going Super Jay... or something like that... absurd and awesome.
But back to Jay, wiping the snot from his hands, wondering what the fuck, looked out the window and saw a skinny, dirty little pug sitting on a fence pole. His heart ached in a way that he'd never felt before, sadness and joy all welling up.
He *had* to save this pug. That was his purpose. He'd never felt so certain about anything in his life and when he opened the door, the god awful smell hit him... he recoiled, then would have vomited but all that would come were dry heaves. He looked up again and the pug was still sitting there, a smile on her face and the sun hitting her fur so that it looked like it was glowing.
She was magnificent.
He held his arms open and she leaped from the fence, splashing the shit water everywhere when she landed and ran to Jay. His heart swelling larger than it could. He sneezed again, blew his nose in the tissue he was still holding and dropped it on the ground right as he caught her.
Jay was so preoccupied with the pug, he hadn't noticed that he felt slightly lighter than he had. He dropped a piece of hate to make room for this pug in his heart. His desire to protect this little dog was so strong, he gave her a small piece of his power. He of course had no idea that he had done this, but the pug noticed immediately. She had never felt love before and now that she did, she would eviscerate anything that dare threaten it.
Jay held her out at arms length, trying to decide on what to call her and it just came to him. "DD .... the flying pug." He wasn't sure why he said the rest, but it felt right.
He looked at her and asked, "DD, the flying pug?" and she barked what could only have been an enthusiastic yes.
She leaped from his arms in to the open RV and looked at him with a grin.
"Alright, let's go!"
Jay had a grin on his face big enough to hurt. That made him want to smile even bigger.
